Lala Barina from Monster Hunter Wilds might be my favorite spider
I don’t particularly like it Monster hunter spider monster, but I do Admire the equipment and weapons you can beat them. Additionally, they can be a bit difficult at times due to the creature’s shape and their attack patterns. Be part of Wild monster hunter preview session I attended at Capcom’s headquarters, I faced off against the newest spider Lala Barina not once, not twice, but five times both as part of the normal run and grind my device in the new gameand it might be my favorite.
Official third trailer of Wild monster hunter taken directly from the game and begins Lala Barina’s introduction, as we meet the spider after Olivia’s Team Ace biologist Erik discovers some of its flowers in a blood-red river. The full experience goes deeper into this, showing off the monster’s lethal capabilities. (To avoid spoilers, I won’t cover that just yet.) Suffice it to say, said flowers also have a paralyzing poison attached to them. This not only appears throughout the campaign but also in battles with these giant spiders.
All of my encounters with Lala Barina, whether tied to the story, quests at the counter, or free exploration in the Forbidden Lands, tend to start in its nest. What’s interesting is how the environment here leads you there. Those rivers of red blood mentioned above? Following it will take you right to that spider’s house. Knock knock. Who’s there? It’s me, Jenni! I need your mucus!
By the way, that’s not a joke. That’s why I spent over five hours of my time with Wild monster hunter pass Lala Barina. Remember how I said I liked the spider gear in the series? Lala Barina’s costumes and weapons are as lavish as ever. The waist piece I want, which is a long white layered shirt with petal/blood red accents, requires Lala Barina Mucus. It just is Are not Cooperate and leave it. So it had to die. Five times. Because at that time I was almost at the end of the game I could play and I wanted to beat Uth Duna with the whole set. (Seriously, I wore this outfit during my first Longsword run, and the full Lala Barina set can include a custom Longsword, so…)
I loved the complexity of the fight with Lala Barina in this preview. (This is subject to change, so my experience may not be 100% transferable to the final game.) When first encountered, it will hang from the ceiling in its nest and sleep. This is an almost closed space with water on the ground. The spider will emit sounds from the flowers that can temporarily paralyze you in waves, forcing you to move around them to reach it. This part is pretty simple, the only dangers are the occasional small flowers and some leaps to attack.
Once its health gets low, it will leave the nest and force you to chase. Honestly, I find the rhetorical element of the combat a bit more complicated at this point. That’s because now that we’re in a larger area, there might be other residents of Scarlet Forest around. That means other factors need to be considered during evasive moves. Not to mention that, as you would expect from a spider in the series, Lala Barina in Wild monster hunter agile! This will now have more room to move, meaning you’ll need to put in more effort to secure it.
The final part of the hunt sees Lala Barina retreat to her nest once again. I find that more often than not, in this final section it takes more advantage of the ceiling and walls of the space. Like it was trying to get out of hand. However, it usually doesn’t use flowers at this point, probably because by that time I’ve broken the parts that make it an option for this creature.
Lala Barina’s War Wild monster hunter felt very satisfied during the preview. Especially during the first four attacks when I use the Long Sword, as its quick hits really help me keep up with it. The crippling agent element makes it feel like one of the first “challenging” opponents in the game, and I hope the hunt is just as fun in the final build.
Wild monster hunter will come to PS5, Xbox Series X and PC later February 28, 2025. Pre-orderers take Guild Knight Set of layered armor and Charm of Hope.
