Lakhimpur Kheri case: Ashish Mishra released from jail | India News

NEW DELHI: Ashish Mishra, the main defendant in the case Lakhipur Kheri violence and the son of Union Minister Ajay K Mishra, was released from prison on Friday.
On January 25, the Supreme Court granted Ashish Mishra a temporary bail for 8 weeks with certain conditions.
However, the release order was only issued on Friday. “He (Ashish Mishra) has been released from prison. We have received a release order from the trial,” said senior director of Kheri district prison, Vipin Kumar Mishra.
Mishra is facing a murder case because of the incident on October 3, 2021 in which 8 people, including 4 farmers, were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri.
Mishra allegedly ran over farmers who were protesting the Center’s three farm laws. He was arrested on October 9.
Unable to stay in Delhi, UP
In his bail order, the SC directed Mishra to notify the authorities of his location at all times. It also said that any attempt by Mishra or his family to influence witnesses or delay the trial would result in the bail being cancelled.
He was released on condition that he not stay in Delhi or Uttar Pradesh for the duration of his bail.
The Uttar Pradesh state government last week objected to Mishra’s request for bail, saying the alleged offenses against the defendant were “of a serious nature and allowing bail in matters of nature”. This can have a negative impact on society.
Representing Mishra, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi said his client is not a danger to society.
On July 26 of last year, Allahabad High Court refused to bail Mishra. Defendant then challenged the order in SC.
