Kyrie Irving allowed to play in home games

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced Wednesday that the city’s private sector immunization mandate has been pushed back, which will allow unvaccinated athletes such as brooklyn network protected only Kyrie Irving to join the house game.

The news came out about an hour later Jeff Passan and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN issued a joint report saying that Adams “has been working with health officials on a plan” but that “no final decision has been made.”

Irving, 30, hasn’t played any home games at the Barclays Center this season because he hasn’t been vaccinated, and he’s even been dropped from the team during training sessions because of his vaccination status. He was revealed at the beginning of the NBA season to agree with many coronavirus conspiracy theory. Shortly after being allowed to practice with the team in December, the Nets faced a major COVID-19 outage at a time when many teams were affected by outbreaks of the omicron variant.

The change in vaccine regulations also affects players from the New York Mets and Yankees, who will be able to participate in home games starting on Open Day, April 7. Yankees, who is said to have two unvaccinated players on their roster, could have faced trouble if the task hadn’t been lifted between not being allowed to play those players at home and not being able to let them go across the border to play the Blue Jays in Toronto.
