Kyle Shanahan expressed frustration at questions about Trey Lance’s injury
San Francisco 49ers Coach Kyle Shanahan was clearly unhappy with questions about the play in which midfielder Trey Lance was injured during Sunday’s game.
Lance suffered a late-season ankle injury in Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks on what appears to be a running track designed in the middle. After the game, Shanahan was asked about the game call and whether it resulted in injury, and he raged at the suggestion.
“Have you guys watched the other teams in this tournament? Buffalo do it all the time with their quarterback. It was a pretty ordinary play,” Shanahan replied. “It’s part of football and it’s unfortunate that he injured his ankle, but it was a very normal game. You guys should see some of the others.”
Shanahan’s frustration is understandable, because he was right. The gameplay is quite set, and it only allows an unfortunate injury to happen. The 49ers have always used Lance’s running ability to their advantage, and there is an inherent risk of injury in doing so.
Lance’s 2022 season seems to have ended Meaningful Jimmy Garoppolo will start during the rest of the year. That means that the activities designed to do can turn out for better or worse.
