Kyle Busch is fined with a black flag for illegal ice on the grille
Kyle Busch was penalized with a black flag during Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race in Richmond for having illegal ice on his grille and the timing of the penalty flags being inappropriate for his team.
Busch was running Friday with under 30 laps when he received the black flag, forcing a pit road trip to clear the ice.
FOX analyst Larry McReynolds say Busch’s crew tried to put ice on the brake hose but missed about 4 inches.
What bothered Busch’s Joe Gibbs team was that the 18th Toyota Camry ran with the grille strip for about 200 laps before officials brought out the black flag. Joe Gibbs Talk about it later race where he feels there are plenty of other opportunities for the problem to be pointed out to them so they can fix it.
Despite the penalty, Busch still finished ninth in the race. For the third race in a row, JGR had all four drivers finish in the top 10, including winner Denny Hamlin.
