Kung-Fu Roguelike ‘Forestrike’ Brings Puzzles and Punch to Switch Next Year

Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Skeleton Crew Studio have revealed LeadA kung-fu RPG that revolves around solving puzzles and throwing punches.

Set to launch on Switch next year, Forestrike will see you take on the role of Yu, a warrior on a quest across the land to save his Emperor. As you might imagine, there will be quite a bit of fighting along the way, but this isn’t your typical action-focused roguelike as you’ll rely on Yu’s ‘Foresight’ ability to play combat encounters ahead of time and learn how to escape them unscathed.

It all looks pretty cool actually. The pixel art puzzles seem to combine interesting combat moves with a sense of memory and rhythm that we can imagine being incredibly satisfying to execute, but we’ll have to wait and see how it holds up over the repetitive roguelike gameplay loop.

You can find the official summary of the game’s features from Devolver Website below.

FOREIGNED IS FOREIGNED
Foresight, a unique gameplay mechanic that allows players to experiment without consequences before actually fighting – and win or die trying. Forestrike’s roguelike gameplay loop creates unique runs and encounters every time, so the ability to adapt and improvise is crucial to progression.

REAL KUNG FU FIGHTING
Always outnumbered, learn to cut through hordes of brutal enemies with composure and efficiency using everything you have. Upgrade and customize your moveset with techniques from your chosen Masters to help you defeat your opponents in intense, puzzle-like battles.

ILLUSION CRAFT
Journey through a visually stunning fantasy world filled with unique characters, fierce enemies, and magical revelations. Intricate pixel art landscapes form the backdrop for handcrafted animations and characters.

We don’t have an exact release date for this product yet beyond “2025,” but we’ll be keeping an eye out for more information in the coming months.

We had a great time with developer Skeleton Crew Studio Olivia back in 2021. While we felt things were getting a little confusing, the deep focus on atmosphere and tension left us hopeful that this kung-fu roguelike would have enough drama to make repeated playthroughs worthwhile.
