Kolkata:

Three others from the home whose cash was recovered in West Bengal at midnight on Saturday were arrested by Kolkata Police along with an associate, after briefly fleeing. They were picked up by the police from Gujarat and Odisha.

Sailesh Pandey, Arvind Pandey, Rohit Pandey, and one of their associates, were arrested by Kolkata Police after recovering around Rs 8 from the brothers’ apartments in Howrah, a satellite city of capital of the state of Kolkata.

All four defendants will appear in court this afternoon.

Police said about Rs 2 in cash was recovered from one of their cars parked outside their apartment in Howrah district, West Bengal.

Government officials entered the apartment and found more money on the box beds in the apartments. Sailesh Pandey and Arvind Pandey, both entrepreneurs, have apartments in a luxury housing complex in the Shibpur area.

The businessman’s family members were not present at the time of the raid, police said.

According to Kolkata Police, the search operation was carried out after the two banks notified Kolkata Police on October 14 about transactions with large amounts of money by two businessmen with bank accounts.

A case has been registered at the Hare Street Police Department and the Anti-Bank Fraud Division of the detective division of the Kolkata Police commences an investigation. Kolkata police also issued a tracking notice against the two brothers, whose whereabouts were later unknown. Two bank accounts linked to them with large sums of money are also being checked.

BJP spokesman, Samik Bhattacharya, criticized the state government, claiming that a small part of the population had “amassed huge wealth, illicit money with the support of TMC”.

TMC MP Santanu Sen reacted by saying such confiscations are a sign that the state police are on the trail of illegal money hoarding.
