A cryptic standee on display at PAX Australia has revealed that Elle Fanning is starring in a new game from Hideo Kojima’s Kojima Productions. The image shows a blurred face with the words “Where am I?” features on standee, tweeted by Kojima with the question “Who is “WHERE”? Those who scan the QR code on the image standee have been directed to again image on the Kojima Productions site, showing Fanning’s face in red light and the message “Who am I?”.
Fanning is known for playing the lead role in director Nicholas Winding Refn’s psychological thriller The Neon Demon. Winding Refn and Kojima worked together for Kojima’s Death Stranding – Refn is the role model for the Heartman character – so there’s a connection there. We already know from Kojima’s announcement at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase in June that his company is working on a new game and it will be for Microsoft.
“It’s a brand new game, a game that no one has experienced or seen before,” Kojima said at the event. “I’ve been waiting so long for the day I can finally start creating it. With Microsoft’s cutting edge cloud technology and a change in industry trends, it’s now possible to challenge myself to come up with something new. this never-before-seen concept.” All we knew before was that it could “take a while” before the game was ready.

Several Kojima Productions projects may have kicked off this year. Back in June, I report on footage believed to be from a horror game called Overdose, which allegedly stars Margaret Qualley of Death Stranding. Fellow Actors Stranding and Kojima friends Norman Reedus seem to slip in a May interview with men’s magazine Leo that a sequel to that game is also in the works. It’s unclear what Reedus was alluding to, and no word has been added about another Death Stranding game since.
We’ll have to wait and see what, or who, where. I’ll let you know when I have more to share.
