Kingscote joins Gulfstream’s Winter Jockey Colony
British driver Richard Kingscote, the winner of this year’s Cazoo Derby (G1) is in favor Desert Crown will spend part of his winter riding at Gulfstream ParkMeet Championship.
Kingscote told broadcaster Nick Luck on the Nick Luck Daily Podcast on December 12 that he plans to start riding in mid-January.
“I was lucky enough to be invited to Gulfstream Park for a while,” Kingscote told Luck. “Luckily, I had a coach who texted, emailed me and the guys at Gulfstream Park were really helpful in getting me an agent and trying to get me out of there, which that’s great. I’m really looking forward to it.
“It’s a different style of riding, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt me to learn something new and open up a new avenue for my riding… I was lucky enough to have attended some Breeders’ Cups and it was just more than the door and trying to get through a few.”
Kingscote first rode a horse as a child growing up in the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, England. He attended the British Riding School and apprenticed with coach Roger Charlton, who rode his first winner in 2004. The multi-group 1 winner was named Tay. All-weather championship horse racing for the first time in 2021.
In addition to being a regular racer for the Desert Crown, Kingscote also test drives Bay Bridge to a nasty score against the champion Baeed in Qipco Champion Shares October 15 (G1).
