King Charles will not attend COP27 in Egypt, Buckingham Palace says | UK News

King Charles will not attend COP27, the United Nations climate conference scheduled to be held in Egypt in November, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

There has been speculation that the King, an ardent campaigner on environmental issues, will attend the event in Sharm el Sheikh, his first foreign trip since becoming monarch.

Confirmation that he would not go came after reports that Prime Minister Liz Truss and 10 advisers had told the King he should not attend.

But Sky News understands from sources that any suggestion of his attendance as a point of disagreement is completely untrue and the decision not to attend was agreed in consultation.

It is understood that there is still discussion about whether he could show his support for the climate conference in other ways.

A Number 10 source told Sky News: “The idea that the Prime Minister gives orders to the King is ridiculous.”
