Kimberly Custodio wins gold in Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu World Championship
MANILA, Philippines — Kimberly Anne Custodio won a gold medal in the 2022 JJIF Jiu-Jitsu World Championships in Abu Dhabi, UAE on Wednesday.
Custodio dominated the women’s -45 kg category, defeating Kacie Pechrada Tan of Thailand, 6-4, in the thrilling final.
Crying after winning the difficult gold medal, Custodio immediately went to her teammates to cheer for her in the stands.
Custodio overcame Sakaew Tadaporn in the semi-final, 14-0, after beating Hamdah Al Shkeili, 14-0, in the quarter-finals.
Tadaporn and Shkeili took home bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Philip Cristopher Alegre and Ashley Jeraine Baluyot failed to advance in the -77kg men’s and -52nd women’s categories, respectively.. Celest Flores-Colina
