Kim Kardashian spent more than £160,000 on a piece of jewelry once worn by Princess Diana.
Attallah Cross was sold to an agent of the American reality TV star after being auctioned off at Sotheby’s in London.
The 1920s pendant, designed by luxury jewelry designer Garrard, was worn many times into the late 20th century. Royalmost famously at a charity gala in London in October 1987.
The Duchess paired the pendant with Catherine Walker’s dress as she attended a gala in support of Birthright, a charity that works to protect human rights during pregnancy and childbirth.
Kardashian bought the pendant for £163,800 – more than double the pre-auction estimate – after a bidding war between four potential buyers during the Sotheby’s Royal and Noble Sale on Wednesday.
The cross, square-cut amethyst and accented with round-cut diamonds, has a total diamond weight of approximately 5.25 carats.
It was first purchased from Garrard, the first official Crown jeweler that supplied pieces to Queen Victoria, by businessman Naim Attallah in the 1980s.
The British-Palestinian businessman, who died in February 2021, was a friend of diana and lent her the cross many times.
Prior to the sale, Kristian Spofforth, head of jewelry at Sotheby’s London, said: “Jewelry owned or worn by the late Princess Diana very rarely comes on the market, especially an item like a tree. Attallah cross, very colorful and bold and different.
“To some extent, this unusual pendant is a symbol of the princess’s growing confidence in her outfit and jewelry choices, at that particular moment in her life. that.”

The reality TV star paid $65,000 (£53,000) for three gold and jade Lorraine Schwartz bracelets owned by actress Elizabeth Taylor in 2011.
In 2017, she bought a Cartier watch, once owned by Jackie Onassis, wife of former US President John F Kennedy, for $379,500 (£307,000).
The 42-year-old wore Marilyn Monroe’s famous gown at last year’s Met Gala. She revealed that she lost 16 pounds to fit the dress.
It was originally worn by Monroe in her famous 1962 performance of the song Happy Birthday to US President John F Kennedy.
The dress was lent to her from Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum.
