Kim Burrell apologizes for ‘hurtful’ comments about LGBTQ+
Kim Burrell is walking back on past harsh comments about people who identify with the LGBTQ+ community. The singer shared an apology while speaking at the 39th Stellar Gospel Music Awards on July 20.

This is the second time in eight years that Burell has apologized for her infamous lecture. She first sorry in 2016 after a video of her comments went viral.
In Stellar Gospel Music AwardsBurrell shares that she now understands “the reach and impact of [her] voice beyond gospel music.” However, she said understanding came with “time and soul searching.”
Additionally, Kim Burrell suggests that preachers must be cautious about preaching beyond their own congregations and to others who also want to participate but are too afraid of being misunderstood.
“[I] “I understand that some of my past words, comments, sermons have been perceived as negative and hurtful by the LGBTQ+ community. There is nothing more hurtful than thinking — imagining — that you said something in the name of God and it hurt someone,” Kim said on stage.
She explained that her “church language” was “sometimes necessary” for those in the back. However, she went on to apologise for choosing to use homophobic language.
“And for that, I want to apologize to the LGBTQ community. Let’s give them a big round of applause,” Burrell told the audience. “We want them to have strength and to know with sincerity that we all have to work to embrace all of God’s people. Tonight, I hope this award and this moment can be the beginning of building bridges and listening to each other as we pursue peace with all people and develop the character of God, which requires seeing God.”

In her previous lecture, Kim accused queer people of having a “homosexuality bias” and a “delusional and confused mentality.” Additionally, Kim Burrell said that identifying as LGBTQ+ is a “sin.”
“…[the spirit] has deceived many men and women… As a man, you open your mouth and put a man’s penis in your face, you are a pervert. You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breasts, you are a pervert,” Kim Burrell said previously.
Kim Burrell first walked back her comments during a Facebook Live broadcast in December 2016. At the time, she said: “We are not in a war against flesh and blood. I came here because I care about God’s creation and everyone from LBGT and anything else, anything that supports gay people… I never said LGBT last night,” she said. “I said SIN and anything that falls into sin is preached.”
Despite her apology, Kim Burell lost her chance. appeared on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ And her talk show on Texas Southern University radio in early 2017.
Last January, the singer and preacher made headlines for silencing a woman when she interrupted her solo performance during a church service. Kim Burrell then spoke out when she showed up to church the way she did!
