Kia Seltos, Sonet & Carens 2023 launched BS6 Phase 2 compliant, new technology


Kia India has launched the Seltos, Sonet and Carens 2023 which now meet the latest BS6 Stage 2 emissions standards. The three models have updated powertrains and additional features that make the models more appealing than before. Part of the upgrades, Kia Sonet 2023, Seltos and Carens now have an updated gasoline engine that is now E20-ready. The petrol engine on the Sonet is unchanged, while the Seltos and Carens get an all-new 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine that replaces the 1.4-liter T-GDI. The new engine is part of the Hyundai Motor Group and develops 158 hp and 253 Nm of torque between 1500-3500 rpm.

On the Kia Sonet, the 1.5-litre WGT diesel engine has now been replaced by an updated 1.5-litre VGT diesel. The updated engine develops 114 hp, an increase of 14 hp over the old engine. The same 1.5 diesel engine also powers the Seltos 2023 and carens and increased power from 113 hp to 114 hp.

Furthermore, all Kia diesel vehicles are now equipped with a standard 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (IMT), replacing the 6-speed manual transmission on diesel engines. The automaker says the IMT technology has received “tremendous customer feedback”, prompting the company to make it standard across the entire range. The 6-speed IMT will also be available with turbocharged petrol options on Kia vehicles. Meanwhile, a manual transmission will currently only be available on the 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine powering the Seltos and Carens, while the Sonet will continue to have a manual transmission with the naturally aspirated petrol engine. 1.2 liters on lower variants.

In terms of features, the Kia 2023 range now has an idling stop/start feature as standard. These models also receive the Kia Connect Skill for Amazon Alexa as a new feature, bringing home-to-car connectivity to customers.
