Hyundai and That is recalling 280,000 SUVs in the United States due to a fire hazard. The cause of the problem on the 2020-2022 Hyundai Palisade and the 2020-2022 Kia Telluride has been determined to be due to the trailer’s wiring. Because of the potential danger, vehicle owners have been advised to get out and away from homes and other structures until repairs are made. Hopefully this information will keep any SUV fires at bay in driveways and streets.
The recall is announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) affecting 245,030 Hyundai Palisades and 36,417 Kia Tellurides from the 2020-2022 model year. in U.S.A. NHTSA states, “An accessory tow hook sold through dealers may allow moisture to enter the harness module, causing a short circuit. In some cases, a short circuit can cause a car fire while driving or while the engine is parked and turned off”. As a result, advice was given to take affected models outside and away from structures.
This issue has yet to be confirmed as the cause of vehicle fires in the US. It is also noted that the recall fix is still under development. There is a temporary repair program for the Hyundai Palisade in which “dealers will inspect the pull rod module and remove the fuse, if necessary.” However, the Kia Telluride does not require temporary repairs so owners will have to exercise caution until a full repair is possible.
This park outside the consultation has also been included in another recall by Hyundai and Kia earlier this year. The 2016-2018 Kia K900 and Hyundai Santa Fe models were found to have a higher risk of engine compartment fire due to a failure of the anti-lock brake module.
