Two women from two different localities in Ernakulam district were taken to Elanthoor in Pathanamthitta and ritually murdered. Their bodies were then fragmented and buried as part of a black magic ‘sacrifice’.
The arrested defendants have been identified as Muhammed Shafi alias Rashid, and the couple of Bhagaval Singh and Laila.
“Prime accused Shafi of using FB to find people in financial difficulty. He found Bhagaval Singh and Laila, a couple interested in human sacrifice. Shafi used FB on his phone. of his wife but she doesn’t know,” ANI quoted Kochi DCP S Sasidharan, principal investigator of Kerala’s ‘human sacrifice’ case, as said.
He added that they are also investigating whether any acts of sexual exploitation were carried out by Shafi.
“There are eight cases registered against Shafi under various charges other than this case of ritual human sacrifice,” added Sasidharan.
According to the official, the killings took place on June 6 and September 26.
Two women earn bread selling lottery tickets daily on the street here, allegedly making sacrifices to solve the couple’s financial problems and provide a comfortable life, an official said.
Meanwhile, residents of Elanthoor village in Pathanamthitta were taken aback by Tuesday’s incident as defendant Bhagaval Singh and his wife enjoyed a spotless reputation.
Police recall Shafi as a brute
This is not the first time Muhammed Shafi alias Rashid (52 years old) has committed a heinous crime. In 2020, he brutally raped a 75-year-old woman in Puthencruz and the police arrested him.
