Kenyan engineer fighting for equality – Global issues

“I grew up in a society that didn’t value women. Our right to education, expression, and sometimes even basic needs, is seen as unimportant and trivial. I grew up with books and other educational materials that showed women slinging their babies on their backs and toiling in the kitchen, while the men carried their briefcases to work or wore their graduation gowns. Education has opened my eyes to the injustices faced by women and girls. I noticed that more and more girls drop out of school as their educational attainment increases. They are either trapped by family responsibilities and other challenges due to interrupted schooling. My College of Mechanical Engineering class has a female student for every 10 boys. It is a portable solar powered refrigerator that can be easily mounted on a bicycle, motorbike or even carried so that medical supplies as well as food can be stored and transported easily. safely to communities affected by climate hazards.

Women are the hardest hit by climate disasters and it is therefore important to take thoughtful measures to ensure that climate mitigation is directed towards women and includes women’s participation. surname. This needs to go beyond high-level discussions and commitments and move to practical and affordable measures that even a small-scale female farmer can understand and practice.

Women-led actions need to be fully and equitably funded to achieve a just green transition. Recognize, celebrate, publicize and celebrate the brave women who have relentlessly advocated for and pushed for equitable, gender-focused and equitable climate action. This move not only ensures that women already in STEM are retained, but it also encourages more women and girls to choose STEM-related fields.”
