Kemba Walker is the seventh player with a double at Christmas

New York Knicks point guard Kemba Walker continues her hot streak by becoming the only one seventh player in NBA history to record a double on Christmas Day.

Walker, 31, dropped 10 points with 12 assists and 10 rebounds in the Knicks’ 101-87 win over the Atlanta Hawks. It was the third career double for Walker and the first for any NBA player at Christmas since the Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green scored one in 2017.

Earlier this season, Walker found himself in the cage of Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau and was a healthy scratch in nine straight games. He returned to the starting line-up a week ago as the COVID outbreak for the Knicks left the team underwhelming and he maximized second chances. Walker scored 94 points in three games, including 44 in Thursday’s 124-117 loss to the Washington Wizards.

“I knew I should play, so there was no question. It felt great,” Walker said after his first game back, via NBC Sports. “But whatever the situation, I’ll be on lockdown, always prepared. Whatever the team needs from me, I’ll be there for them.”

The Knicks started the season 5-1, but struggled late in the season and won only two of the nine games Walker missed as a healing scratch. Saturday’s win moved the team to 15-18 for the year.
