Keke Palmer – star of ‘Nope’ on how to handle rejection and stay consistent

Keke Palmer is famous in the Twitter story for being “busy and busy”, becoming an actress, presenter, comedian and musician at just 28 years old. But that’s not always the case, Palmer revealed in a interview with Glamor magazine.

Almost 20 years ago, the Illinois-born girl first acted in Ice Cube’s “Barbershop 2: Back in Business,” playing the niece of Queen Latifah’s character, Gina. Before her breakout role in “Akeelah and the Bee” in 2006, Palmer auditioned for the role of Ice Cube’s daughter in the 2005 family comedy, “Are We There Yet?” However, the role ended up going to Aleisha Allen, which the then 12-year-old Palmer was very disappointed.

“I remember being very sad when I didn’t get it,” she told Glamor’s Ruhama Wolle. “But looking back, I wasn’t ready yet. When I was there, I had the opportunity to do the movie ‘The Longshots,’ with Ice Cube. That’s why I always say that things don’t always work out.” for you.”

Since starring in “Akeelah and the Bee,” Palmer has starred in more than 30 films and several television shows, from starring in “True Jackson, VP” on Nickelodeon from 2008 to 2010, even got his own talk show, “Just Keke,” on BET in 2014.

In addition to learning how to deal with rejection, Palmer also prides himself on not letting his ego decide which roles to pursue.

“I think the biggest key to my consistency is that I try not to have an ego,” Palmer said in a blog post. interview with Andscape’s Kelley Carter. “Many people say that I’ve done that and that so I can’t do that job. [Meanwhile] I like, is everyone cool? Is the material good? Do they go to lunch? Let’s go!”

“I’ve always kept it for what I’m passionate about and what I’m connected to… As an actor, it’s important to get a job and work. Even if it turns out to be a blockbuster movie or not is not something you can do endlessly control. All you can do is hope for the best and do what you love.”

This year, Palmer stars in Disney Pixar’s “Lightyear” as space ranger Izzy Hawthorne, and in Jordan Peele’s highly anticipated film, “Nope,” which hits theaters nationwide on Friday, June 22. The horror film, which also stars Daniel Kaluuya, is expected to earn around $50 million, according to Limit line.

Palmer talks about her excitement for the film’s premiere and gives a glimpse of what viewers can expect from the movie. Today’s show.

“The two main characters, Daniel and I, brother and sister, discover something in the sky. And they are on this journey, for different reasons, to find out exactly what it is. Daniel’s OJ character is very curious, and my character was like how can we get ahead of this? How can we exploit this? And through that journey, it’s really is an observation about how many of us in today’s society are obsessed with external things like validation, exploitation, and putting things on the scene.”
