Davis is a marine biologist who has worked as an observer of fisheries, a little-known profession that offers both great adventure and in some cases great risk. An estimated 2,500 observers are our eyes and ears over the oceans. They live on fishing boats for months, venture hundreds of miles offshore to protect those waters from overfishing, and collect scientific observations that help us understand the health of our oceans and our sea creatures.
