Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj beat Australia’s batting line-up as India won their first ODI at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, despite a few hiccups in the batting department. Shami and Siraj each picked up three sticks to limit Australia for a meager 188 total, after Hardik Pandya chose to bowl. Chase target 189, KL Rahul beat 75 games unbeaten to help India beat Australia by five goals to take a 1-0 lead in this series.
After the match, BCCI shared a video of a candid conversation between the two speed runners and Shami took it as an opportunity to ask Siraj about his Cristiano Ronaldo-like ‘Siuuu’ celebration.
“I also have a question for you. Can you tell us what is the secret behind your celebration?”, Shami asked Siraj in a video uploaded on the internet. Bcci.tv
Siraj replied: “My way of celebrating is very simple. I am a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo so I try to follow his example. When I attack a hitter, I celebrate that way, but if he’s caught in the forefoot or similar position I don’t do that.”
However, Shami had an interesting piece of advice for Siraj.
“Ek advice hain, acha baat hain aap kisi k fan hain. As a fast pitcher aapko yeh jumpo se thoda sa duur rehna chahiye.” (I want to give you some advice. It’s good to be someone’s fan. But as a fast pitcher, you need to stay away from such jumps.)
Back to the match, India had trouble with a score of 39-4 when chasing the 189 goal.
However, Rahul remained calm and established important partnerships, including an unbeaten 108-game streak with Ravindra Jadejawho made 45, to get the win in 39.5 passes.
The second ODI takes place on Sunday in Visakhapatnam.
