Keeneland planted six cherry trees – three on either side of the chessboard in the courtyard – in memory of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8. As a lifelong horsewoman, Queen Elizabeth II was competed in the races at Keeneland on 11 October 1984, for the first run of the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, where she presented the trophy. The 39th edition of the GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, presented by Dixiana, will be contested on Saturday.

The tree planting at Keeneland is part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and to serve as a living legacy for her “extraordinary service to the country”. and her people”.
