Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2 Still Not Dropped In The DC Shakeup Scene



Despite recent turbulence in the DC lineup that has caused many popular projects to be canceled, shelved or reconsidered, an unnamed Warner Bros. Weekly entertainment that the recently announced Constantine sequel is still coming.

Last September, it was announced that, 17 years after the 2005 film starring Keanu Reeves, sequel tries him again with director Francis Lawrence are on the way. Lawrence went on to direct three of the four original Hunger Games films and will take on the prequel next year.

As was first announced, Oscar-winner and Batman veteran Akiva Goldsman, a producer on the original Constantine, will write and produce the project through his Weed Road Pictures, with JJ Abrams and Hannah Minghella from Bad Robot. It is interesting to note that Abrams is developing a Hellblazer TV Show for HBO Maxbut that project also seems to be shelvedAt least for now.

When Constantine debuted 17 years ago, the John Constantine character was one of the lesser known members of the DC pantheon but had the longest Vertigo Comics series at the time. It grossed over $230 million worldwide on a modest $85 million budget, compared with another 2005 comic book film Batman Begins, which had a $150 million budget. While this isn’t exactly a proper Hellblazer adaptation, fans have finally reached out to the movie and been looking forward to the sequel for a long time.

Lawrence has been recorded saying that he want the Constantine sequel to be rated CHEAPsays that one of his regrets about the original is that it was rated PG-13.
