KCR’s Party TRS Wins Key Election, Defeats BJP Candidate By 10,000 Votes
Hyderabad:
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s TRS Party won the Telangana’s Munugode by-election with over 10,000 votes. TRS candidate, K Prabhakar Reddy, has faced an uphill battle from BJP’s K Rajagopal Reddy.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), recently renamed Bharat Rashtra Samithi, has partnered with the Minister, aka KCR, to hold public meetings and deploy the entire team of ministers and the MLA of himself to ensure victory.
TRS candidate, K Prabhakar Reddy, took the lead to be declared the final winner. K Rajagopal Reddy, BJP candidate, was present at the previous Congress. By-election was needed after he left Parliament to join the BJP.
Mr. Reddy’s defeat would be a humiliating turning point for him.
Campaigns prior to Munugode saw massive spending by both TRS and BJP.
TRS supporters and workers burst into celebration at party headquarters in Hyderabad. More than 93% of the poll was reported in the poll held on November 3.
For KCR, the Munugode fight was a prestige battle as a BJP victory would signal a crack in the TRS defenses through which the BJP would join and work to expand its presence.
