KBL: RJ Abarrientos, Ulsan bounce back vs Justin Gutang, Changwon

MANILA, Philippines – RJ Abarrientos only scored six points but Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus went through two games with a 77-73 victory over Justin Gutang and Changwon LG Sakers in the 2022-23 Korean Basketball Tournament on Sunday at the Gym Changwon fight.

Abarrientos only shot 2/5 – fewer touches than in his previous games – but he contributed 4 rebounds and 3 assists as Ulsan started the New Year in high form.

Seo Myeong-jin made four trebles to finish with 18 points along with four assists and three rebounds, while Gaige Prim scored a brace with 16 points and 13 goals to go through with two blocks.

Jang Jae-seok also scored 16 points, 11 bounces, 3 steals and 2 times as Mobis Phoebus took second place with an improved 16-11 record.

Gutang only scored two points for Changwon but he made seven assists, had three rebounds and two steals only for them to suffer their second consecutive loss, sliding to the 15-11 card in third place.

Egyptian Assem Marei leads the Sakers with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Lee Kwan-hee and Kim Joon-il got 14 and 13 points, respectively. Lee Jae-do has 10 ticks, 6 bounces, 5 assists, and 2 steals.

Meanwhile, Wonju DB Promy also caught two skates when Ethan Alvano delivered an all-around in their 102-90 win over Jeonju KCC Egis on Saturday at Wonju Gymnasium.

Alvano scored 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals to break the visitors’ four-game winning streak.

Besides importing the Filipino, Dewan Hernandez led Wonju with 20 points, 8 goals and 2 assists to end the year with a margin of victory, making it 11-16.

Jeong Ho-young and Kim Jong-gyu each scored 15 points, while Lennard Freeman dropped 12 points and bounced 5 times for the home team.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead Jeonju, who dropped to fifth place with a score of 13-14.
