Katie Britt Wins Alabama Republican Senate Premature
Rich McCormick, a retired emergency room physician and Marine, will win the Republican nomination for projects of CNN, Georgia’s 6th Congressional District.
McCormick, who won a majority of the vote in the May 24 primary, faces attorney Jake Evans in Tuesday’s run-off for the Atlanta metro district. While Evans has benefited from the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, he hasn’t improved much on his 24% figure in the preliminary round.
McCormick, meanwhile, has support from others in the Republican Party, including House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, as well as support from the PAC for the Club for Development. He’s also the top fundraiser in the field, raising more than $3 million and nearly double what Evans has brought in.
Despite not having the support of the former President, McCormick still ran as a MAGA-style conservative.
This is McCormick’s second bid for Congress. In 2020, he lost a close race to Democrat Carolyn Bordeaux in the neighboring 7th Congressional District. After a census-driven redistricting placed some of the old 7th District in the new 6th District, McCormick made his bid for the more Republican-friendly chair. (Current House member of the 6th House, Democrat Lucy McBath, defeated Bordeaux last month in the primary to represent the new Seventh Group.)
The new district has a Republican majority, and McCormick is clearly the favorite to win the seat in November.
