Kanye West is said to have terminated the partnership with the gap over the company’s alleged breach of contract

Kanye and Gap have announced a 2020 brand partnership, under which the Yeezy clothing collection will be developed. Despite the success of Yeezy Gap, Ye recently criticized the apparel chain on social media for its shady business practices.

On Thursday, The Wall Street Journal received a letter from Kanye West’s attorneys notifying Gap that Ye had decided to end the partnership. The letter alleges that Gap violated its partnership agreement by “failing to release clothing and open retail as planned.”

Specifically, Ye and his attorneys stated that Gap was required to open nearly five retail stores dedicated to displaying Yeezy Gap products by July 31, 2023, which has yet to happen. The letter also states that the retailer is required to sell 40% of the Yeezy Gap collection in stores by 2021, but the first item released, the Yeezy Gap hoodie, is only available online.

Just last week, Kanye took to Instagram to talk about his problems with Gap after claiming the company held a meeting without him. He also accused the brand of stealing designs from Yeezy Gap x Balenciaga Collection for their own retail items.

In late August, Ye posted a video clip in which he told Gap executives:

Gap was supposed to sell all existing Yeezy Gap products before being forced to cut ties with the Yeezy brand.
