Via Sean Jones: George Kambosos Jr says he’s spotted signs of a mental breakdown in Devin Haney in the form of his stutter, and he’ll hit him up when they meet for the uncontested lightweight championship argue.
It’s unclear what Haney’s stuttering has to do with combat, but Kambosos seems to believe he’ll be able to take advantage of that.
If this was a speaking class or a singing competition, Haney’s stutter would be a hindrance, but fighting was another story.
Unified lightweight champion Kambosos (20-0, 13 KOs) and WBC champion Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) will be in the spotlight on ESPN from Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
Haney returned to the war after Kambosos’ original target Vasyl Lomachenko joined the Ukrainian territorial battalion to defend against the Russian invasion.
Kambosos sees mental weakness in Haney
“I see mental weaknessand see it had with Devin Haney,” George Kambosos Jr told Fighthype about his discovery of Devin Haney’s weakness prior to their June 4 battle in Melbourne, Australia.
“I didn’t think I would watch it so quickly. To put it bluntly,” Kambosos said of how he saw a weakness in 23-year-old Haney. “He stutters a lot for a guy who is supposed to be the defensive type.
“That stuttering is not a good sign. You see me, I never stutter. I’m always zoning out and very responsive to what I say. After this fight and the battle, I’m preparing to attack; it will get worse,” said Kambosos.
Haney will be a real puncher for Kambosos because he’s a lot more disciplined than Teofimo Lopez, and he won’t be as explosive as he did.
“I will take him down before the battle; I know I will. I had,” Kambosos said. “I’m fighting a guy with a different puzzle [WBC lightweight title]. I want to collect that, and I will,” Kambosos said of Haney.
“I am at my peak. I know he’s not in his prime yet. I’m back home five years after I hit all these belts, beating the best guy. It doesn’t matter who it will be. That’s what Haney had to understand.
“All you bring is a half piece [WBC title] that I want, and that’s it. That’s all I want. You come to the fight, and you get your money. Also have to pay.
“I don’t know what all these reasons are for him to be less, and he only received a small amount of money to make this fight happen. It’s a load of *** s. He’s getting millions and millions of dollars.
“So come here, and we put on a great performance and beat him. Not only defeat him but hit him go. It’s very interesting because I know where I come from. I come from the trenches, and you will see exactly where I came from,” said Kambosos.
Jorge Linares and Joseph Diaz Jr injured Haney in a recent fight with him. Kambosos lacks their power, so he probably won’t hurt Haney.
George will gloat after June 4
“That chip is still there on the shoulder, and it will never go away,” said Kambosos. “The day it goes will probably be the day I hang them up. The pros don’t want to see me win.
“When this great war happened, they will see that I have not forgotten,‘ said Kambosos, hinting that he would do a little gloating afterwards.
“I’m focusing on Devin Haney. That is CHILD in front of me right now. I have to get him out, and I’ll get him out. I knew I was going to fight Devin Haney.
“No matter what happens with the Lomachenko deal, I still want Devin Haney. I want to put an end to this belt talk altogether that he never had the joy of winning inside the rope,” Kambosos said in reference to Haney being elevated to the side 135-lb WBC champion. out of the ring rather than winning his title. the normal way by hitting someone.
“You are not my compulsion; I could have fought anyone. Haney made the same deal [as Lomachenko]. It’s not the deal he wants, but it’s good. This will be a long road.
“I have a lot of battles, big ideas, and I just keep focusing on one by one; I will continue to win. They can doubt me as much as they want, no problem.
“I am a Spartan warrior; it’s bloodline. Kambosos says that we are built very tough and very strong mentally.
People doubt Kambosos because he beat only one of the best boxers of his career in Teofimo Lopez, and he was injured in their fight last November.
Many boxing fans claim that the only reason Kambosos beat Teofimi was that he didn’t hit 100%. As such, Kambosos could be unmasked by Haney, and it was those who doubted him that would get the last laugh and gloating.
