In a new book about The Big Bang TheoryReleased in time for the beloved sitcom’s 15th anniversary, one of the more shocking behind-the-scenes anecdotes has been revealed. Kaley Cuocowho played Penny, nearly had his leg amputated early in the show’s 12 seasons. The Big Bang Theory: The Sure, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series wrote that the actress had an accident while riding a horse in 2010, the show’s creator, Chuck Lorrewas called “devastating” in an October 13 interview about the book with ET. “There were a lot of things that happened that didn’t happen, she could have lost her leg,” he said.

Kaley recounted the horrifying incident to author Jessica Radloff, saying the horse buckled her seat belt, ran over her, and landed on her left foot. “It’s very serious and Kaley is still having a hard time talking about it,” Jessica told the outlet. The writer went on to say that the only reason Kaley made a full recovery was because Chuck “gave her the care at Cedars-Sinai she needed.”

“When she recovered, he would come play her guitar and buy her a rocking horse and say, ‘This is the only horse you’re allowed to ride,’ Jessica added.

Miraculously, Kaley only had to sit out one episode! “She was behind the couches, or she was sitting, and we made it as easy as possible, and I think during that setback she missed an episode, it was a miracle,” Chuck detailed.

The anecdote appeared only a few days after Kaley announced it she is pregnant with her first child! Give it to her Instagram on October 11, the star revealed she is welcoming a baby girl with her boyfriend Tom Pelphrey. “Little girl Pelphrey is coming in 2023,” she wrote alongside a selfie with Tom, whom she has been dating since May. “Beyond blessings and on the moon… I 💓you @tommypelphrey ! !!” Tom shared a similar set of photos, wrote, “And then it got BETTER.
