Kai Sotto set for New York Knicks mini camp
MANILA, Philippines—After training with the Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz, Filipino midfielder Kai Sotto will expand his training streak with NBA teams, this time with the New York Knicks.
According to Heavy Sports, Sotto will fly to New York next week to try his luck with other promising players in the hopes of making it to the Summer League roster.
“Currently, he is going through the process of introducing himself to NBA teams and coaches, and playing against other players who are hungry for a chance to play in the Summer League and have a chance to make it to the top. on the list,” said Tony Ronzone, Sotto’s agent during an episode of PlayItRight with Quinito Henson.
It’s going to be a busy year for Sotto who’s been lately signed an extension with the Hiroshima Dragonfly in B.League Japan. His name is also included in Gilas Pilipinas’ 21-man list for the upcoming Fiba World Cup.
However, 21-year-old Sotto believes there won’t be any conflict with his commitment as far as action against Gilas is concerned.
“The summer tournament will have no scheduling conflicts. It [Summer League] ends in mid-July and the World Cup is in late August. I think there will be time,” said Sotto.
“It’s the World Cup and the Philippines is hosting it so it could be the biggest match of our careers.”
