Kai Cenat regains Twitch subscriber record
Kai Cenat has reclaimed the record for attracting the most Twitch subscribers in a single live stream.
The 22-year-old American has been streaming continuously on the platform for the past 30 days and has hosted a number of guests including Snoop Dogg, Serena Williams and Bill Nye.
The number of subscribers accumulated during that period was 727,694 – although the final number has yet to be confirmed by Twitch.
This number is more than double the previous record of 326,252 set by IronMouse in October – breaking Kai’s previous record from 2023.
Snoop Dogg called Kai on the second day of the livestream to talk about his next album and on the fourth day gave him a tour of his Los Angeles home.
Viewers got a look at the rapper’s recording studio as well as the hotel’s other luxury amenities – among them a basketball court, video game room and casino.
A few days later, the streamer had a video call with tennis legend Williams in which she talked about her favorite quick meals.
Williams also revealed her sister Venus, a Wimbledon champion, is a better tennis coach than her – because she has the patience to teach proper technique.
Mr. Nye, a mechanical engineer famous for hosting a popular children’s TV show about science, went with Kai to his house.
They staged various science experiments for viewers, including how a block of ice melts faster on a metal surface than on a plastic surface.
These continuous broadcasts – often called sub-contests – are often organized by streamers in an attempt to increase their subscriber numbers.
This one was named Mafiathon 2 in honor of Kai’s subscribers, whom he called ‘Kai Mafia’.
Viewers sign up to help support their favorite streamers, and Twitch gets a portion of the money. Prices in the UK start from £4.99.
Kai has over 15 million subscribers and pledged that 20% of the money he makes from this marathon effort will go to the school he is helping to build in Nigeria.
The side competitions are not expected to be interrupted with a guest standing in for Kai while he takes a break for bed.
However, not all went as planned as the livestream had to be paused after police were called to his home following fraudulent reports of an emergency.
