In this next series, we take a look at some of the U.S.-born and/or U.S.-born runners taking part this coming weekend at the Japan Racing Association circuit tracks. Edition, focusing on pedigree and/or performance in sales. Here are the horses of interest for this Saturday’s race at Nakayama Racecourse. The highlight of the weekend and one of the main events of the year, the G1 Arima Kinen (Grand Prix) attracted almost every top driver in Japan. Adjust for Sunday morning at 1:40 a.m. ET if milk and cookies are still available before Santa arrives:

JASPER TIARA (f, 2, justification–Sweetgrass, by street feeling) was the first pony to enter her dam races, placed no less than five times the graded bets on Six Column Stables and Randy Bloch and purchased by Baccari Bloodstock for $250,000 at Fasig-Tipton November 2017 sale. The May 3 pony, which was scratched when it was due to debut in July, was one of 12 ponies bought by trainer Hideyuki Mori at Keeneland last fall in September last year, for 150,000 dollars. A half-sister to Jasper Tiara raked in $160,000 in this year’s KEESEP sale, while Sweetgrass sold for $135,000 for a foal. City of light at Keeneland’s November sale last month.
