Julie Andrews celebrates Carol Burnett on NBC Special – Hollywood Life

Friendship goal! Julie Andrews was on the right by Carol Burnett inside Carol Burnett: 90 years of laughter + Love TV specifically to support his lifelong friend. In a rare public appearance, the sound of music stars, 87, were all excited to attend the star-studded event, which celebrates Carol on her 90th birthday and honors her groundbreaking contributions to television. Since the legendary actresses have worked together on three TV specials of their own over the years, they have become quite close and Julie is ready to congratulate her old friend. “I can’t believe it’s been 62 years since we first met,” Julie told Carol. “We switched from landlines to cell phones and texting… and oh how we laughed!”

Carol and Julie’s decades-old relationship was introduced with a video montage of their hilarious sketches and hilarious duets from 1962. Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hallin 1971, Julie and Carol at Lincoln Center and the years 1989 Julie & Carol: Together again. “Julie and I never stopped talking to each other, like we’ve known each other since the beginning, so Julie and I came up with the idea to do a special show together. So we ended up in triplets,” Carol happily explains in a pre-recorded clip.

The footage shows the two actresses completely in sync with each other and turning that rare friendship into gold, including an Emmy for their first feature film special. “We shared our thoughts many times,” Julie tells Carol after the video. “I called you when I was having a hard time and I needed a shoulder to cry on and I can’t imagine where else I want to be tonight. And I love you so much.”

And that was just the beginning of a string of stars paying tribute to Carol, who changed the landscape of television by becoming the first woman to host a comedy variety show. with the launch of Carol Burnett’s Show in 1967, has collected 25 Emmy Awards in 11 years running.

Cher, Kristin Wigg, Charlize Theron and many others have used microphones to let Carol know how much she has inspired them in their own careers. Dolly Parton even wished Carol a ‘happy birthday’ from a remote location.

And to make the evening much more special and official, President Joe Biden And First Lady Jill Biden Send their love with a pre-recorded message. “You have inspired a generation,” they said. “We love you, child, you are a national treasure.”
