Josh Warrington on who he wants to win Wood vs. Lara
Josh Warrington will keep an eye on the upcoming featherweight title fight between Leigh Wood and Mauricio Lara.
Wood is the champion and, if he defeats Lara, he will be ready to fight Warrington in his hometown of Nottingham or Warrington’s beloved Leeds. A major domestic clash that UK fans have called for.
In another corner is Lara, the Mexican who arrived in the UK at the height of the covid pandemic and knocked out Warrington. A rematch was decided without competition after a head collision injured the Mexican.
‘Leeds Warriors’ have been touted to fight the winner of this match, despite losing to Luis Alberto Lopez last December.
But who does he want to face more? I said iFL TV that the bad blood with the Mexicans ran too deep to not want a third contest.
“He [Wood] there’s a huge fanbase with the Nottingham fans, and I’ve got great support from the people of Leeds, so it’s a stadium fight, isn’t it?
With that said, I told him the other day, nothing personal, but I want Lara to beat him. that is [for] for no other reason than that I want to fight Lara again. It’s as simple as that.”
The two-time champion is confident he will face the winner no matter what, knowing that, even though he currently doesn’t have a belt, his shares in the division are still high.
“People definitely know that if they play against me it will be a big game. Obviously because of the fan base I have, and because of the profile. World champion, six world title fights, five wins. Still a relevant name, and I’m not blowing smoke in my ass but boxing buffs can see that.
That’s why people want to see if Josh wants to fight us. That’s why I’m still relevant.
Wood faces Lara in Nottingham on February 18 live DAZN — and fans can expect Warrington to be at the top and center of the crowd.
