Josh Warrington denies losing to Mauricio Lara

Via Scott Gilfoid: Josh Warrington is in damage control mode this week, due to a ninth-round KO loss to Mauricio Lara last year as he looked over his head to claim the title against then-WBA featherweight champion who was at the time. Can Xu.

The way Warrington (30-1-1, 7 KOs) is minimize his loss with Lara, he seemed to have the impression that he closed the chapter on that sad event in his career after his rematch last September.

To those who are hazy about the details of that war, Warrington is like a Billy the goat is free inside the ring. Warrington needed a set of horns, and he would be a carbon copy of a small upright goat at night.

Poor Lara never had a chance, being stabbed repeatedly by Warrington until a large cut opened up on the Mexican slugger’s right eye, bringing the fight behind to a halt after two innings.

The right to be decided was a two-round technical draw even though Lara overtook Warrington in both halves. The fight took place in Leeds. As far as Gilfoid could tell, Warrington had barely won for two innings before the fight was halted due to a cut.

On Saturday night, March 26, Warrington will fight for a world title with IBF featherweight champion Kiko Martinez (43-10-2, 30 KOs) on DAZN at First Direct Arena in Leeds, UK Brother.

This is a rematch for these two fighters, as Warrington beat Kiko by a questionable 12th round majority decision in 2017 at Leeds.

“Kiko comes forward, he throws a lot of punches, he puts a lot of pressure on him and he is a tenacious puncher,” Josh Warrington told iFL TV. I have grown and older than five years. ”

Warrington promoter Eddie Hearn has scheduled his next bout against ‘regular’ WBA featherweight champion Leigh Wood if he wins Saturday night over Kiko. No mention was made of Mauricio Lara, who was supposed to fight for the world title.

Warrington continued: “There was a time when I wanted to throw eighth and eighth shots in mixed sports non-stop. “These days, I’m a little more reserved and more focused on my punches.

“I think I’m a bit wiser in what I’m going to do on Saturday. I was shocked because I didn’t expect him to be caught by such shots,” Warrington said of Martinez stopping Kid Galahad in his final fight.

“Play fair with him. It just shows that anything can happen in the sport. I think during the construction, Kid mentioned a lot [Emmanuel] Navarrete and merge. He dropped a few percent and paid the price for it.

“100%, I made that mistake with Mauricio Lara,Warrington said. “For the first time, I laughed and joked about what I was going to do in my next camp to get ready for [former WBA ‘regular’ featherweight champion] Can Xu, and of course, I went back to my dressing room and straight to the hospital.

“I think it’s different from the other because Can Xu is a set fight and the posters are made. I’m ready to rock & roll for the next session to get back to London, hit the gym and move on.

“There are a lot of things that can become a distraction, but I won’t let it be a distraction this time. I was completely focused on Saturday night,” Warrington said in mitigating his loss to Lara by blaming his lack of focus.
