Josh Taylor remains undisputed lightweight champion through controversial division decision
Scotland’s Josh Taylor remains the world’s undisputed lightweight champion on Saturday with a tight and controversial decisive victory against British boxer Jack Catterall (112-113, 114-111, 113-112).
Both are undefeated going into the match against Taylor who currently holds a 19-0 record and holds the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and WBO belts in the lightweight division. Catterall had a 26-0 record in the title match and suffered its first defeat on Saturday.
Catterall, 28, scored the only knock-out goal of the game, knocking out Taylor in the round of 16. In addition to complaints about the scoring method, the fight also led to a fierce controversy when the referee deducted one point for each boxer. The first was Catterall’s punishment for holding Taylor by the neck.
