Jordan Pickford: Everton goalkeeper sidelined for a month with thigh injury and will miss England games in September | Football news
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford faces a month out after straining a thigh muscle during Saturday’s Merseyside derby.
Injury means Pickford will miss the Toffees’ Premier League games against Arsenal and West Ham, as well as England’s Nations League games against Italy and Germany later this month.
The scan showed no serious damage, but it is expected to keep Pickford out for at least four weeks. Everton confirmed in a statement that the 28-year-old will not return until after the September international break.
That leaves Asmir Begovic the only suitable goalkeeper for Everton, while Andy Lonergan is missing due to a knee problem.
Everton have not ruled out finding a free agent to provide more cover for the goalkeeper.

Sky Sports football journalist Joe Shrad:
“Deciding who will start England’s goal at the World Cup is not a cause for concern and is more of a subject of debate for Southgate. Pickford. got the number 1 shirt since the 2018 World Cup – so much so Aaron Ramsdale, Nick Pope and Dean Henderson there were only 12 caps between them compared to 45 times for the Everton keeper.
“Southgate was stuck by Pickford even as successive Toffees managers were forced to publicly answer questions about his form.
“To be fair to Pickford, Frank Lampard’s appointment as Everton manager seems to have led to a boost in his performance. But the reality is that he has scored fewer clean sheets and conceded fewer clean sheets. net more goals than both Ramsdale and Pope since the start of last season.
“With that in mind, perhaps England’s goalkeeping situation can be viewed in one of two ways. It could be said that the Three Lions had a solid No. 1 at Pickford, who recovered his spirits first. The World Cup – before he was injured – and was actively supported by Ramsdale, Pope and Henderson; or it could be argued that the impressive performances of the Everton staff are casting doubt on the team. ill-timed position for England.
“For what it’s worth, Southgate will likely take the former, more positive view,”
