Jones: McCarthy ‘leads’ Cowboys to Super Bowl
As the Dallas Cowboys suffered another disappointing end to a season with deep playoff aspirations, some fans might think head coach Mike McCarthy will be shown the door. The franchise parted ways with Wade Phillips midway through the 2010 campaign after many omissions and then fired Jason Garrett after the 2019 campaign in a similar fashion after more than nine seasons.
However, less than two weeks after losing their NFC wild card game to the San Francisco 49ers in January, it was reported that McCarthy’s employment safe for the third season this fall. Even as former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has become a popular name for drum gigs across the league, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reiterated that McCarthy not going anywhere.
On Tuesday, Jones was once again adamant about his support for the 58-year-old former Green Bay Packers leader.
