Johnny Nelson talks DAZN PPV

Johnny Nelson downplayed DAZN in a recent interview, saying that many of the people involved in the streaming service’s foray into boxing ended up with eggs in the face for switching perspectives on them. I’m about pay per view.

Nelson, told Seconds out that he understands PPV is a necessity in modern boxing, but DAZN’s marketing of ‘dead PPV’ is somewhat short-sighted.

“Now they [DAZN] understand that you can’t be active and pay these guys such ridiculous amount without pay per view.

It’s not the greed of the promoters or the TV companies, it’s just a financial problem. These strugglers want a lot of money and the money has to come from somewhere.

It can be a bit of a reality check, you can just give away so much money that you eventually have to start earning again.

It’s just a bit of a problem with how many surnames [DAZN] screaming and shouting about pay-per-view is dead, so now is the time to swallow some humble pie. “

DAZN has been heavily criticized for their decision to make the three-part fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin pay-per-view in the UK, despite the start time being 5am – with many fans already social media to announce that they would be canceling their subscription as a result.

This week’s upcoming fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will be the second test of pay-per-view performance on the platform for a major UK time slot, with the Youtuber card featured by KSI in August also behind a paywall.

It will be interesting to see how the bout plays out for a real boxing audience, as DAZN will be looking to recoup some of the big investments they’ve made in boxing over the past few years.
