“I would say to Julie at the end of a day at work, ‘It just gets all this stuff back in my brain and makes me think about it again,’” he said.
“Working on the book forced me to have those things back in my consciousness. It’s not pleasant, let’s put it that way.
“In a way, the day the book was finally finished, I was pretty relieved not to have to dig it up again.”
In the book, he openly writes about the legal battles that followed the band’s disbandment.
The singer was taken to court by Fantasy Records, which owns the rights to Creedence Clearwater Revival’s music, including songs that John Fogerty wrote.
They claim that his solo hit The Old Man Down the Road, released in 1985, sounded too much like a Creedence song he wrote called Run Through the Jungle from 1970.
He won the challenge in 1988.
