Joel Diaz, Jr. lost to Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta in A War!


Via Ken Hissner: At Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, on Thursday DAZN Oscar De La Hoya (Golden Boy Promotion) presented in the Lightweight Main Event Joel Diaz, Jr., overtakes a pair of knocks in the first round to came back well for the next three rounds but Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta had a stronger shot in a decisive battle!

In the Main Event, lightweight Joel Diaz, Jr., 26-3 (22), #134 ½, of Palmdale, CA, lost to southpaw Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta, 33-3-3 (17), # 134 ¾ , PH, and San Diego, CA, over ten almighty innings.

In the first round, Gesta rushed to attack Diaz in the first minute when a direct hit Diaz in the chin. The second kill occurred with fruit from the Gesta, and Diaz was counted 8 by referee Ray Corona. He barely made it to the end of the round.

In the second half, Diaz dashed out and, in midfield, rocked the Gesta with a punch on his chin. He dominated the Gesta for the rest of the inning. In the third and fourth innings, the action continued with Diaz once again getting the best of the Gesta, who fought back recklessly.

In the fifth round, both had their moments, with Diaz the goofy Gesta always coming back with enough to get through another round. In the sixth inning, the Gesta did enough to get through the ring in a fight where even punches landed except for those two first-round knockdowns.

In the seventh round, Gesta moved around the ring well, hitting Diaz well enough for another round in an action-packed fight. In the 1/8 round, Diaz mostly let Gesta into the inner round.

In the ninth inning, the action turned even more frenetic, with Gesta doing well in the middle of the ring but not when Diaz let him fight the ropes in another close quarter. In the tenth and final round, the Gesta rocked Diaz in the first minute with a head-butt that sent Diaz staggered. It’s all instant action, with the Gesta having an edge in a great battle!

The score is 96-92 twice and 95-93, as this writer scored it.
Men’s bantamweight superman Manuel “El Meny” Flores, 12-0 (9), #119 ¼, of Coachella, CA, stopped nampaw Victor “Pelon” Ruiz, 23-13 (16), #119 , of Tijuana , Baja California , MEX, at 2:21 of the third of eight scheduled innings.

In the third round, Flores defeated Ruiz with a series of punches, receiving an 8 from referee Ray Corona. Just seconds later, a left from Flores to Ruiz’s chin knocks him out a second time with 8 counts. While rising, Ruiz was hit on the chin by Flores, dropping a third time, prompting referee Corona to send his hand off the field.

Lightweight Jouse “Tito” Gonzalez, 12-0-1 (11), #134, of Glendora, CA, stopped a game Jairo “Doberman” Lopez, 27-15 (18), #133, of Apodaca , Nuevo Leon , MEX, at 2:29 of the sixth of eight scheduled innings.

In the second round, Gonzalez from right and left to Lopez’s chin and down he was beaten by referee Eddie Hernandez, Sr. from Referee Hernandez. In the next round, a combination from Gonzalez to Lopez’s chin resulted in a third knock.

Between rounds, the referee warned Lopez to hit back, or else he would stop him. In the 4th half, Gonzalez played better in the solid two innings. In the fifth round, acting angry at the two had a moment where both of them had their right eyebrows cut. In the sixth inning, two cuts from the right of Gonzalez on Lopez’s chin injured him, causing referee Hernandez to stop the match.

Flyweight Jan “Nito” Salvatierra, 8-1 (4), #111½, of Los Cabos, Baja California, MEX, stops Ernie “The Gladiator” Marquez, 10-18-2 (3), #110 ¾, of ft . Morgan, CO at 2:26 of the second of the six scheduled rounds.

In the second round, a punch from Salvatierra knocked out Marquez, who apparently injured his right ankle when he hit the canvas, stopping referee Eddie Hernandez, Sr., from the match.

Featherweight champion Jorge Chavez, 2-0 (2), #127 ¾, of San Diego, CA, stop Jonathan Tejeda, 0-2 (0), #127 ¾, of Mexico City, Mexico, at 1:04 of inning two of the four scheduled innings.

In the first round, it was all Chavez, who, with 30 seconds left, landed his left hook into his body, injuring Tejeda. In the second half, with less than a minute left, an overhand tackle from Chavez knocked Tejeda down and referee Ray Armendariz gave him an 8 and sent him off as he got up.
