Joe Wicks has received the first honorary doctorate from St Mary’s College in London for his health and fitness efforts amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Body Coach, 36, was awarded the honorary degree during a ceremony at Westminster Cathedral on Thursday, where he also delivered a speech to graduate students.
He used Instagram throughout the day to document the ceremony, sharing snaps of himself beaming in his ear after being awarded his Ph.

For the big day, Joe posed dapper in beige trousers and a white long-sleeve shirt, which he teamed with a pair of brown shoes.
In his chic outfit, Joe wore a red and blue graduation gown, while he buckled his brown curly hair underneath his traditional black Oxford cap.
The fitness trainer appeared in good spirits as he proudly held his roll in the air while posing for a photo.

Sharing a photo of the three siblings to his Instagram Stories, he joked: ‘Being the middle child pays off.’
Speaking of the award, Joe said he enjoyed his time studying for an undergraduate degree in sports science at St Mary’s University and was ‘very proud’ to have been awarded an honorary doctorate.
He said: ‘I feel very proud to receive an honorary doctorate from St Mary’s University. I loved every year of my time there studying sports science.
‘It was the first time I felt excited to pursue a career in a field I was passionate about. I have maintained that love and passion for fitness and continue to do all I can to inspire others to live healthier and happier lives.
‘Thank you to all the teachers and trainers from St Mary’s who have helped me get to where I am today.’

‘It is awarded for my contributions to the health and fitness of the nation during the pandemic and for my charitable work. I think the video at the end shows how amazed I was to be awarded this award. Thank you St Mary’s. ‘
In addition to sharing pictures of himself in his graduation gown, Joe also shared photos of Westminster Cathedral, where the ceremony took place.
Earlier in the day, Joe filmed himself going to church by car, admitting that he hadn’t planned his speech in front of the graduating students.
He said: ‘I wasn’t planning my speech, I wasn’t sure what I was going to say.

‘I’m really nervous, but I’ll speak from the heart, say thank you to everyone there and hopefully give them something to focus on as they head out into the big world.’

He was the first to receive an honorary doctorate from St Mary’s after the school was awarded a Degree in Research in Powers in 2021, allowing the University to grant its own PhD.

During the first Covid-19 lockdown, Joe launched PE With Joe and hosted daily workouts for families to do together at home.
His venture has raised more than £580,000 for NHS charities and Joe went on to raise another £2m for BBC Children In Need by completing a 24 hour televised workout hours.
Speaking of Joe’s award, St Mary’s Vice Chancellor Anthony McClaran said, ‘We are delighted to present this award to Joe.
‘He was the perfect recipient of our first honorary doctorate award. Joe is a great role model for our current students.
‘His work in welfare, philanthropy and education is closely aligned with our core values of Excellence, Inclusion, Generosity of Spirit and Respect, and we proud of all that he has achieved in his career so far.’
