Joe Joyce really doubts whether Joshua wants to fight him or is angry
Joe Joyce has spoken out about Anthony Joshua’s future, and is skeptical about whether his British colleague will want to fight against other elite heavyweights.
Joyce said Boxing ID that he has serious reservations about a potential fight between Joshua and Tyson Fury following the recent failure of negotiations for the pair to go head-to-head last year.
‘The Juggernaut’ went on to say he doesn’t believe Joshua will fight him – despite his comfortable win over Joyce in the amateurs.
“Joshua is still a great fighter and there are a lot of exciting fights out there for him – I want to fight him.”
“I don’t think that’s going to happen with Fury. Look how many opportunities there have been until now. I don’t think he wanted to fight me, even though he knocked me out in one round, blocked me in one round in the amateurs.”
“What is he afraid of?”
Many have questioned Joshua’s thinking after consecutive losses to Oleskandr Usyk over the past 18 months and predicted a long road back to the top.
Joshua is expected to return to action this spring, with Fury’s old nemesis, Otto Wallin, tipped to be the frontrunner to be called ‘AJ’s return rival.
However, Joshua is now a boxer without a coach, seemingly away from Robert Garcia despite only going through one camp under the guidance of a coach.
The 33-year-old is taking another gym ‘tour’ and is expected to make an announcement on his training status in the coming weeks.
Joshua has spent time with the likes of Derrick James and Virgil Hunter as he seeks to regain the bite that helped him once stand at the top of the blue ribbon.
