Jockeys and Jeans Stallion sale season starts January 10

The Jockeys and Jeans Great American Stallion’s seventh season sale to benefit the Jockeys Perpetual Disability Foundation will be previewed on Starquine.com January 9, with bidding beginning at 9 a.m. on January 10 and ends at 9 p.m. on January 12. The sale includes both Thoroughbred and Precious stallions based in states including Kentucky, Florida, New York, California and Texas.

“Sadly, career-ending injuries happen to racers in both disciplines and this is a great example of the two coming together in a meaningful way to support funding. for those whose lives are changed forever by participating in horse racing, the sport we all know and love.” Jockeys and Jeans President Barry Pearl said.

The PDJF pays a monthly stipend of $1,000 to 60 riders from both disciplines who suffered catastrophic injuries that had to end their careers. Two-thirds of them are now quadriplegic or hemiplegic.

This is the third year the Quarter Horses have been sold, thanks only to the efforts of the legendary retired quarterback athlete, GR Carter. Proceeds from Thoroughbred seasonal sales were slightly higher than the Quarter Horse seasons in the first year, but last year the Quarter Horse seasons took the lead by a bit.

“They have devoted a large part of their lives to the sport that has made me and many others so successful,” Carter said. “And we all owe them something in return.”
