‘Jo Piyega, Woh Marega’, says Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Saran liquor deaths | India News


PATNA: While the death toll in Saran hooch tragedy spikes above 35, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Thursday said, “Jo Piyega, wow‘ (Those who drink fake wine, will die.).
He also said the hooch-related deaths in Saran provided a vivid example that such fake drinkers would die. It is very simple.
“Last time someone died because of drinking fake alcohol, someone said compensation should be paid. I said, ‘Wah.’ Jo sharab piyega, woh marega hello. “If someone drinks fake alcohol, he will surely die. These deaths are an example before our eyes. … Such deaths must be mourned. People should visit the affected villages and convince people not to drink fake alcohol. You’ve all seen a huge campaign that I led across the state in support of the alcohol ban,” Nitish said while answering questions from the media in the state capital, shortly after placing flowers. When asked about his response to alcohol deaths in Saran County, Nitish said: “Since the implementation of the total ban in April 2016, the state government has taken a number of steps to educate educate people about the harmful effects of drinking alcohol. I even led a statewide anti-alcohol social reform campaign. We have warned people not to drink fake alcohol. The ban is enforced here (in Bihar). People must remember that they should not drink alcohol. However, there are still some people taking the wrong steps.”
CM also said that he has asked his officers to spare the poor who may be involved in smuggling and to hunt down those who are running the illegal alcohol business/trafficking. “But those involved in the production and sale of alcohol must be arrested,” he said.
Nitish also said people from poor families should not get engaged
in the alcohol business. “They should be engaged in jobs other than illegal alcohol production and trade. I am willing to give Rs 1 lakh per family to people who previously worked in alcohol related jobs to start other jobs. We will increase the amount if needed, but no one should be involved in the alcohol business,” he said.
When asked that the objection BJP Alleged that there was no benefit from the ban, Nitish, while defending his decision to ban, said the majority of people in the state agreed to support the alcohol ban. “Prohibition has benefited some people and many people have given up drinking because of his measures. This is good. Many people have happily accepted this. But some people do it wrong. I told the officers to identify the real offenders and arrest them,” he said.
