Our top picks from Auto Expo 2023

It may just be a concept and the production version may look very different, but it is certain that the Maruti Suzuki eVX could be the most important car on display at Auto Expo 2023. eVX is a preview of one. all-electric skateboards, which will be shared by a consortium of Japanese brands such as Toyota, Subaru, Mazda, Daihatsu and, of course, Suzuki, to build their own products for the global market . Therefore, Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle will not be an ICE conversion but will be built on a dedicated all-electric platform that will create a new range of electric vehicles for India, Europe and Japan. Copy. It’s also important that the eVX is not a compact car as you’d expect from a master compact carmaker. It’s a 4.3-meter SUV with a generous wheelbase that will house a state-of-the-art 60kWh wing-cell battery pack. The concept looks great and Maruti Suzuki doesn’t spoil the styling.

While Jimny and Sierra were certainly Expo performers, one car that caught my eye was the Tata Curvv. Yes, you’ve seen it before, but this time it looks like it’s production-ready and it will come with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Originally revealed as an EV concept, it will now arrive as an ICE avatar in 2024. The styling has loads of amazing elements, and that could be a sign that the Tata is coming. product in the future. That also means we’ll see the Sierra ICE variant first!

MG has been a brand that has moved into the electric space seamlessly. Essentially a well-engineered engine and battery, the stunning new MG4 is an aggressive car that can take MG’s electric success forward. Attractive and alluring spikes; it’s mature and practical at the same time; and the amount of power and range it provides is exactly what you need. Minimalist interiors even have a great vibe about them. If you’ve always liked hatchbacks, then this could be the perfect compact EV. Can’t wait to drive this one.

My aunt had the original Sierra and, like everyone else back then, I enjoyed driving and driving it. So I simply melted when I saw the production-ready Sierra. I love the upright stance, the stout B-pillar looks great, and although the rear glass house isn’t as enveloping as the original, it’s gained in style. And then the interior! The lines are sharp, fabric takes precedence over leather and plastic, and there’s even a sound bar in the center. It’s minimalist and classic – two of my favorite design themes – it’s as if I’ve custom-made it, which means I only need to order one.

While more radical vehicles were on display at Tata Motors’ expansive Auto Expo 2023 booth, the Harrier EV concept would be my pick for what it stands for. The Tata Harrier is an SUV with a lot of promise, but its arrival on the market is somewhat immature. They’ve fixed a few problems in the four years since, but this Harrier EV concept car finally gives us the SUV we should have been – bigger wheels, sharper looks sharper and some simple but effective things like all-LED lighting. Then there’s the long overdue infotainment upgrade with a sleek new touchscreen. But really, it’s the powertrain, although no specs have been revealed. With support for dual engines, it finally brings 4WD to an SUV that should have always had it, and since we now know it will finally get a petrol engine, it completes the trio. petrol, diesel and electric powertrains.

Tata Motors has the most content-rich booth (again) and I really think Sierra and Curvv are thriving. But Suzuki Jimny did it for me. The extra doors don’t spoil the look (it turned out to be better than everyone’s render!), and I love the fact that it’s still under 4m long. The engine specs seem overly impressive, but as long as the performance is decent in town, I don’t think it’s a deal breaker. I can’t wait to drive one myself because cute and cheerful Jimny is at the forefront of finding space in the Bhatia family.

Besides, the two busy days of press conferences and the rush to deliver content took a heavy toll on their mental and physical well-being. And the only car from the show floor that I want to use to go to the airport is the Lexus LM. It will be very expensive when it goes on sale and an MPV is not everyone’s choice. But everything has a back seat for the back seats. The ‘kings’ are probably the best thing I’ve ever experienced in a car. If the LM is as quiet as I imagine it to be, it could be a car that makes traffic jams bearable.

Yes, this is not a car or an SUV at all, but I will do my best and call it my top pick from Auto Expo 2023. Switch EiV22 will play a pivotal role in the game. revolutionizing zero-emissions public transport in India. Very few double-decker buses survive at the moment, and seeing a brand like Ashok Leyland, with its Switch portability, break through in this segment with an all-electric version is no small feat. It is also a dream come true for a double decker bus lover like me. The 65-seat Switch eiV 22 will begin its mission in Mumbai, followed by other major cities, to provide pollution-free transportation. The one on display at Auto Expo has an open top, but Mumbai’s fleet will have a convertible, like the one previewed last year. Plus, it’s the car with the most room on display at Auto Expo 2023.
