First Lady Jill Biden has tested positive for Covid, the White House announced on Tuesday.
She tested negative for Covid on Monday “during regular testing”, but “started developing cold-like symptoms late in the evening”, her communications director, Elizabeth Alexander, said in a statement.
Alexander said: “She came back negative again on the rapid antigen test, but the PCR test came back positive. The First Lady got double vaccinations, two vaccinations and only experiencing mild symptoms,” Alexander said.
The first lady, 71, has been prescribed the antiviral drug Paxlovid and will be isolated from others for at least five days, the statement said.
Alexander said: “The First Lady’s close contacts have been notified. She is currently staying at a private residence in South Carolina and will return home after receiving two consecutive negative COVID tests. next”.
The First Lady has been on vacation with President Joe Biden on Kiawah Island, SC, since last week. She is scheduled to arrive in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday to attend events at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Her positive diagnosis came just weeks after the president tested positive for the virus in July. He was immediately treated with Paxlovid and then test positive again At the end of the month after a few days the test came back negative, which his doctor described as a case of a drug-induced “rebound”.
The First Lady has not tested positive during that time.
