Jets’ Kyle Connor, Nate Schmidt test positive for COVID

The Winnipeg Jets have given other clubs a reminder that COVID-19 remains a concern as post-season approaches.

According to NHL’s website, Winnipeg forward Kyle Connor and defender Nate Schmidt joined the league’s COVID-19 protocol after they tested positive for the virus. The pair are in quarantine for five days and, therefore, will not be available for Wednesday’s game at the Buffalo Sabers, Thursday’s game at the Toronto Maple Leafs or Saturday’s home game against the Los Angeles Kings.

The hope is that both will be good to go to next Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Each ESPN Statistically, Connor leads the Jets with 41 goals and 82 points obtained in 67 games. Schmidt, meanwhile, has four goals and 27 assists in 66 contests during the campaign.

“We’ve got other top guys,” the Jets interim head coach Dave Lowry commented on this latest defeat. “And yes, you just pointed out that [Connor is] won’t be available to play but someone else will have to step up. And what it does now is it creates opportunities for others to come in and take advantage. “

Winnipeg was sixth on Wednesday night on the Central Division leaderboard with 74 points but only three marks return of the Dallas Stars in the race for the final playoff berth of the game.
