In the Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers, the Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb struggled as the team’s No. On Friday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear he expected more from his previous first-round draft pick.
“You have to catch the covered balls,” Jones said on KRLD-FM. “Every team in the league has to face the same thing. They will have their best dual receiver. What the receiver should best do is broadcast through that coverage area. “
Confronting Tampa Bay, Lamb captured two of the 11 targets for 29 yards and struggle to break double coverage.
“During the game, I was very angry,” Lamb said at a press conference on Thursday.
The Cowboys attack doesn’t get Lamb to support anything. Midfielder Dak Prescott, who left the game with a right thumb injury in the second half, went 14 for 29 for 134 yards. Prescott can miss four to six weeks with the injury.
Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged offensive problems, but he wasn’t sure how they could create a solution for Lamb.
“This is the world CeeDee lives in right now,” McCarthy said at a press conference on Wednesday. “He’s going to get all the attention.”
Lamb admits no recipients Michael Gallup, who is suffering from a knee injury, or Amari Cooper, who was exchanged in the off-season to Cleveland, making the adjustment more difficult.
“There are three 1s out there, it makes the difference,” Lamb said.
