Jerry Jones flies in to reiterate support for Mike McCarthy

On Thursday’s “First Take” on ESPN, Cowboys owners Jerry Jones visit a show in Frisco, Texas by helicopter with Stephen A. Smith. He then praised his head coach, Mike McCarthy, who many people believe sitting on the hot seat.

“If there is another person on this planet that I think I can include [his] find out and do even better than take us to this year’s Super Bowl, he’ll be here,” Jones said on ESPN.

McCarthy coaches the Packers into a Super Bowl game title in the 2010 season, however, McCarthy’s teams have not recorded a playoff win since 2017, when his Packers beat the Cowboys. The Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl since the 1995 season.

According to ESPN’s Football Strength Index, The Cowboys are the NFL’s sixth best team. The only NFC teams to rank higher were the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

However, the injuries in the Cowboys’ offense raise concerns. Left-hander Tyron Smith will miss most of the season with a torn left hamstring. Wide receiver Michael Gallup repairing a torn left ACL and won’t be ready for Week 1.

Despite the injuries, Jones remains upbeat. “We’ve got a solid defense like we’ve had for many years” Jones said.

The defense, ranked seventh last season, consisted of Pro Bowl outfielder Micah Parsons and full-back Trevon Diggs. Maybe it can relieve McCarthy’s pressure and offense.
